By some accounts Kansas is the unofficial “gateway to the west.” While not considered a western state, Kansas has some rich history as an old west city where cowboys and outlaws once roamed. Before the old west, the continent of North America was desolate and inhabited by very few. Kansas shows us a window into hundreds of years ago with its untouched tall grass prairie, which is unrivaled by anything else on the continent. Not many states offer visitors a first hand glimpse at roaming packs of bison, but Kansas does. These bison can be seen along the roads in Western Kansas and at the numerous state wildlife refuges.
For the wee ones, Kansas City has a tremendous museum to challenge their little minds to think of the wonders of science. This interactive museum is the Children’s Museum of Kansas City. Blues and jazz clubs are also a staple of the city of Kansas City. It’s hard to walk through the heart of downtown with out running into a “moanin’” saxophonist.
